Organizers consider a biennial schedule for this successful, family-friendly event that attracts thousands
Lake Cumberland Air Show organizers have announced they are considering a new schedule for this premier regional event, with the next date anticipated in fall 2026.
Following a successful 2024 Lake Cumberland Air Show, which returned after a one-year hiatus for airport improvements, the organizing committee recognized the benefits of a longer planning period and is looking to host the event every two years. The 2024 event, presented by Don Franklin Family of Dealerships, featured music, food, and a robust lineup of air and runway entertainment, attracting a record 10,000 visitors.
“The 2024 air show was a tremendous success, and the year we had between shows allowed us to refine the event and ensure a top-notch experience,” SPEDA President and CEO Chris Girdler said. “Moving to a biennial schedule would allow us to maintain that level of quality and continue to grow the air show. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the near future.”
Sponsorship opportunities for the next Lake Cumberland Air Show will be announced in the coming months. Lake Cumberland Regional Airport board member and Lake Cumberland Air Show Committee Chairman David Morris emphasized the importance of community support.
“Producing an event of this scale requires significant planning and coordination,” Morris said. “Should we choose to do so, transitioning to a biennial schedule would allow us to expand our sponsorship opportunities, book top-tier performers, and enhance the overall experience. We are incredibly grateful for the community’s ongoing support and look forward to making the next air show the best yet.”

The Lake Cumberland Air Show features a variety of vintage military aircraft, World War II warbirds, and aerobatic performers, in addition to static displays, helicopter and airplane rides, and food and beverage vendors.
“The air show serves as a fantastic opportunity to showcase our beautiful airport, its state-of-the-art terminal, and its newly updated tarmac,” Girdler said. “At the heart of this event’s mission is to raise awareness about this facility and the importance of aviation to our local and state economies. We are doing that at record levels, and that is exciting.”
Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bobby Clue said the feedback from sponsors and attendees after the 2024 show was overwhelmingly positive.
“Spacing out these events will allow us to build on that momentum, attract even more visitors, and provide an even more enriching experience,” Clue said. “We’re excited for what the future holds for this event and look forward to sharing the many ways our business community can partner with us to grow this event, which has become a leading entertainment experience in the Lake Cumberland region.”
The air show has been recognized for tourism excellence by the Kentucky Travel Industry Association with a bronze Traverse award in the destination management category, and was named Event of the Year by the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.
