Applications accepted June 1-July 31 for leadership position guiding future growth of Somerset-Pulaski County
The Somerset-Pulaski Economic Development Authority (SPEDA) has officially launched its search for the organization’s next President & Chief Executive Officer.
Applications will be accepted beginning today, June 1, and continuing through 4 p.m. ET on July 31. The SPEDA Board of Directors will conduct a comprehensive search process and review all applications before scheduling interviews. A selection is expected in fall 2026.
Current President & CEO Chris Girdler announced in August of last year that he would transition out of the role, one he has held since SPEDA was formed in 2019.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for an experienced economic development leader to build upon a strong foundation and help shape the future of Somerset-Pulaski County,” said Brook Ping, chairman of the SPEDA Board of Directors. “Our community has established itself as one of Kentucky’s most innovative and collaborative economic development success stories, and we are looking for a leader who can continue that momentum while helping us capitalize on the opportunities ahead.”
Established through a unique partnership between the City of Somerset and Pulaski County Government, SPEDA has helped drive significant investment, job creation and community development initiatives throughout the region. Today, Somerset-Pulaski County is positioned for continued growth through projects such as SPEDA Commerce Park, the ongoing expansion of Valley Oak Commerce Complex, workforce development initiatives, tourism growth and quality-of-life investments that continue to attract residents, visitors and businesses.
This role is responsible for advancing SPEDA’s mission through business recruitment, existing industry support, strategic planning, partnership development, organizational leadership and community engagement.
The position reports directly to the SPEDA Board of Directors, which consists of Somerset Mayor Alan Keck, Pulaski County Judge-Executive Marshall Todd and six appointed board members. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with public officials, business leaders, educational partners and community stakeholders throughout the region.
